When people want to lose weight they often hear the they need to increase their metabolism but most people don’t know what it is, how to increase it and why it’s so important for losing weight.

What is metabolism and why is it important to lose weight?
In order to maintain itself, the body needs to burn calories, energy, and that’s basically the metabolism of your body. It doesn’t matter if you’re working out, sitting in the sofa, sleeping, eating your body is always burning calories.
A muscular body burns way more calories than a fat body in order to sustain itself, therefore fit and often muscular people with a low body fat percentage who exercise almost at least 3 days a week have a higher metabolism than people with more body fat percentage who don’t exercise at all.
How can I increase the metabolism?
This is quite a straightforward answer, you have to exercise more.
However, you can’t just do a bunch of exercises, because not all exercises have a high enough resistance for your body to increase your metabolism you’ll need to do the proper exercises.
That’s why people who want to burn stomach fat never lose it because most of them focus on abdominal specific exercises which on their own don’t increase the metabolism.
The right exercises are heavy resistance exercises such as weight lifting, with lifting weights you actually ‘beat up’ your muscles around your whole body thus making your body increase the metabolism to recover all the muscles by burning calories.
It’s also important to do aerobic workout such as jogging, swimming, cycling and so on to increase your heart rate which as well increases your metabolism.
Do you need to diet to increase the metabolism?
Mine opinion is no, you don’t have to diet but you do have to skip the bad foods such as fast food, processed food and make sure the calories you consume are not from fat and eat a lot of proteins for the recovery of the muscles.
And never skip breakfast, if you do you will lower your metabolism and get in a catabolic state where your body burns up muscle tissue to supply amino acids for certain body functions. If you do this too often you’ll lower your metabolism and make it easy to gain fat and hard to lose it.
If you want to lose weight healthy my advice is to first consult a doctor, some people have a low metabolism because of a medical situation and not as a result of lack of exercising.
Otherwise, I recommend to start exercising with weight lifting and daily aerobic training, jogging is a great way to start and it’s free.
